Target Species:

All types of animals and poultry.

Pharmacological Properties:

Albendazole, a benzimidazole carbamate derivative, exhibits broad-spectrum activity against adult and larval forms of nematodes, cestodes, and trematodes. It also has ovicidal activity, preventing contamination of pastures and stables.

Albendazole inhibits microtubule polymerization. Disruption of microtubules interferes with glucose uptake, leading to dysfunction of the microtubular system in helminths, causing their death and elimination from the body. Its efficacy is enhanced when administered with food.

Zinc has antiseptic, adsorptive, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and disinfectant effects. It plays a crucial role in metabolic processes, including protein and collagen synthesis, and promotes regeneration and epithelialization of tissues damaged by parasites in the gastrointestinal tract.

The combination of zinc and albendazole reduces potential side effects of albendazole (such as liver dysfunction, leukopenia, hypersensitivity reactions). These effects are mild.

According to its toxicological classification, Albezin tablets are considered low-risk substances (hazard class IV) and are well tolerated at the recommended dose.

Pharmacokinetics:

Albendazole is better absorbed orally than other benzimidazoles. About 47% of the dose is excreted in urine within 9 days as metabolites. Active metabolites (albendazole sulfoxide and sulfone) reach peak plasma concentrations within 20 hours.

Zinc is absorbed in the small intestine (duodenum and jejunum) via a specific protein synthesized by the pancreas. It is excreted mainly through feces and urine.

  • Lung helminths: Dictyocaulosis, protostrongylosis, Muelleriosis, neostrongylosis, cystocaulosis, metastrongylosis.

  • Cestodiasis: Monieziasis, avitellinosis, thysanieziasis.
