Information about drug:
Colistin sulphate is an antibacterial drug of polymyxin group, which is characterized by wide spectrum of anti-germ activity. It is less toxic and is characterized by bacteria-static and bactericide activities.
Colistin sulphate is effective against gram-negative micro-organisms, such as Pasteurelaa, Bordetella, Esherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas etc.
Drug form: White or almost white powder
Pharmacological characteristics:
Colistin sulphate is a cyclopeptide antibiotic, with is produced from polymixin bacillus. It belongs to therapeutic group of polymixin. Colistin sulphate is effective against gram-effective microorganisms such as Pasteurelaa, Bordetella, Esherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas etc. It causes disorganization of bacteria cell membrane by leakage of intracellular materials. It hastens bacterial oxidant metabolism. Resistance against colistin wasn’t reported. Colistin is used for treatment and prevention of diseases caused by sensitive bacteria in swine, poultry, cattle, sheep and goats.
Effects:
Drug is used during gastro-intestine infections that are caused by microorganisms sensitive to colistin (Pasteurelaa, Bordetella, Esherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas) in all kinds of domestic animals – calf, goat, poultry, sheep, swine. It is used against colibacillosis, keel disease and bacterial diarrhea.
Dosage:
Drug is dissolved in drinking water or in food and is administered in a peroral way. Dosage:
Calf, goat, sheep – 5g on 100kg/bw, 5-7 days;
Poultry – 1kg on 1500 liters of drinking water or 750kg of food, 3-5 days;
Swine – 1kg on 1000 liter of drinking water or 500kg of food, 5-7 days;
Treatment course lasts for 7 days.
Side effects:
No side effects were reported when drug was administered in recommended dosage. Renal function disorder, neuro-toxicity and neuromuscular blocking can be observed due to high sensitivity to colistin.
Contraindications:
Isn’t used in combination with other antibacterial drugs;
Special directives:
It is allowed to slaughter chickens and animals for usage of meat after 3 days from finishing treatment with given drug. Chicken eggs can be used without limits.

Drug is kept according to ‘B’ list in a dry area, which is protected from light in the room temperature.
